There are a lot to choose from, In general, I doubt that there are any good free web hosting companies around. Even if you are prepared to pay a huge price for your hosting needs, it does not guarantee that your host is good. In this industry a high price does not necessarily mean quality hosting and support.
Like me, you’ll probably end up settling for a trade-off between price, reliability and features that you’re willing to live with. I’ve been pretty happy with the one I’ve been using so far: http://www.mediaend.com and I’d have to recommend, and they offer a free domain name with plans. Good Luck!

Hi see here for some help: http://www.hostimatic.com/category/free-hosting/
It tells you about what i would say is the best free web host at the moment and what you are likely to get for you money? It has everything you will need and a lot more including no advertising. Many free web hosts don’t include mySQL databases and other little things you many need later on.
Obviously being free there are downsides to it, so read the post about users experience with the hosting company.
Also on that site you can see more information about paid hosting and compare it against the service you require and get with free packages.
Overall, just check that site and weigh up the pro’s and con’s of free web hosting.

I would not suggest going free as the site is likely to go down a lot and the customer support will be non-existent. I suggest you have a look at http://www.hosting24.com they will register a domain name for free for life and come with unlimited webspace and unlimited data transfer and you can go with them on a monthly basis.
They come with a website wizard and plenty of ready made scripts to accomplish what you are after.
Also when you sign up with them if you enter in a discount code they will give you 25% off their ridiculously cheap hosting plans. code to use is 25OFF
I host all my sites there and have been more than pleased with their help and support which is available by phone support! I hope this helps

freewebs.com
all the free ones are shit, and you won’t get the URL you want. example, all freewebs hosted websites are full of ads, and will say something like www.freewebs.com/your_url_goes_here.
i hope you get the gist of wat im saying / wat i mean. Anyway, also try your ISP. They usually do website hosting, and may give you a reasonable / discounted price since you are with them for internet service. Good luck to you. hope i helped.

Free hosts are a good way to get started. The only downside is that a lot of them, but not all, use advertising on your pages to pay for the servers and bandwidth.
Use something like http://www.free-webhosts.com/ which has reviews of hundreds of free hosts to find a good one.
Take a look at http://brisray.com/comp/cwbasics1.htm which is the way I suggest you get started creating your site.
I too collect postcards of my adopted home town and here’s how I did my site – http://brisray.com/th/tpcards1.htm
http://brisray.com/th/tpcards18.htm has links to other "city" collections of postcards so you can see how other people have arranged theirs.
You don’t need masses of space, I’ve got 700 postcards on 200+ pages, around 4,500 files in total and they take up just under 50Mb of space.
